UFC Undisputed 2009 Review
After waiting for more than five years, UFC fans finally got their prayers answered when THQ released UFC Undisputed 2009. The game is packed full of non-stop action and each strike has the potential to be the fight stopper. Standard strikes are easy enough with a combination of face and shoulder buttons being used for both high and low kicks and punches as well as blocking. You’ll see cool variations to almost every different strike in the game depending on which fighting style you choose from.
Although you won’t hear thunderous sound effects every time you land a punch the striking game in UFC Undisputed is still highly satisfying. It’s the intricate and complex ground fighting and positioning something that was surely a worry for the development team when they started making UFC 2009, that surely gives UFC leverage over other recent fighting games.
The ground game translates perfectly onto the right analog stick. Through a series of minor and major transitions with your right analog stick you can naturally move
to and reverse any of the ground positions that you’ll see in a typical Pay-Per-View event. Mastering this skill will surely take some time but is definitely worth the time as you will be able to reverse out of everything your opponent is throwing at you.
UFC surely has a lot of room for improvement but this game was one hell of a start for what should be a great franchise for many years to come. This game is the pioneer for what should be the start of the mixed martial arts era as many MMA games are already being made because of the grand success UFC Undisputed 2009 witnessed.
