New World Record For Longest Period of Time Playing a Video Game
People are constantly breaking world records. This month alone, a record was broken for the longest tennis match, a mind-blowing 11 hours and 5 minutes. The record was also recently broken for the world’s largest salad, weighing in at 29,579 pounds. (No word on the salad dressing.)
But another, nerdier record, was shattered this week when six Dutch video game players went on a 50-hour, or 3,000 minutes, gaming marathon to break the Guinness World Record for longest period of time playing a video game.
The previous record was set last year by Chirantan Patnaik, an Indian gamer who played for 40 hours and 20 minutes.
The new world champions, who are probably sleeping right now, played the game Red Dead Redemption, a first-person cowboy game set in the early 1900s, for more than two days. The gamers played on Sony PlayStation 3 and used a special power docking station, TwistDock, to keep their video game controllers charged during their record-breaking exertions.
During the game, the players were allowed to take a 10-minute break every hour for humanitarian purposes — to use the restroom and eat.
The players were originally competing with each other to break the previous world record, but decided to band together to pass the milestone together. As a result, the six players shared a cash prize and the publication of their names in the Guinness Book of World Records.
The six winning gamers are Sven de Vries, Renzo Bos, Robbie van Eijkeren, Marcel van Waardenburg and Edward and Maykel Leest, who are brothers.

What?? You mean all those times I thought I was just feeding my gamers addiction I could actually have been winning Cash Prizes and some fleeting fame??
And they even took a 10 min break Every Hour! I’ve played games for 10+ hours Straight! Then gone right back to it after a Five min break.
Time to find my self a good game station and show them punks how we old timers get it done! 50 hours….Ha!
I am a follower of a site that does all the records for games and so on and read about this there first. It is actually easy but hard to get a record these days as they track some stuff that no one has submitted a score for. Of course, if you are the first to post a score you can bet someone will be along to beat it very soon. Good read, thanks.

I was under the impression there is no prize money for breaking a Guinness world Record, per this quote from Guinness’ FAQ
“We never pay record breakers for their achievements – we also do not cover expenses, offer sponsorship or provide equipment. Guinness World Record is an impartial arbiter of record breaking achievements around the world and cannot be involved in the organization of a record attempt. Also, our record holders are fuelled not by financial gain but the satisfaction of setting, achieving and surpassing their goals – and receiving the official Guinness World Records certificate.”
i know i can beat 50 hours but how do i save tht long of a video. im not good with it im 17 playing mw2 on ps3 and want to break it. any help
