by Nate Ahearn and Colin Moriarty

May 1, 2010 – The first trailer for Treyarch’s upcoming entry into the ongoing Call of Duty series, Black Ops, shows us precious little about what the game might specifically be about. There are plenty of clues in the trailer, but is it enough to piece together the story of Black Ops? We now know that theaters of conflict in Black Ops range from Vietnam to Cuba to some sort of snowy environment. But just what conflicts are we talking about?

The Vietnam connection is clear from the images. Little history lesson: The French were bogged down fighting the communists there until 1954, and the United States was intimately involved in a costly undeclared war in Indochina for nearly a decade thereafter, dedicating forces directly to the fight from 1965 until 1973. The war cost nearly 60,000 American lives, and remains the most unpopular war, declared or otherwise, in our country’s history.

Likewise, a possible Cuban connection is equally as obvious. President John F. Kennedy authorized an ill-conceived invasion of Cuba in the spring of 1961, one that failed to achieve any of its objectives, and nearly caused a greater conflict (as well as acting as a harbinger of things to come with the communist world). Perhaps Black Ops will include a portion where players assume the role of a member of the invasion force coming over from Florida?

What remains elusive, however, is any conflict that accounts for the appearance of snow. What encounter could have happened in a snow-ravaged setting, at least one involving the United States in the post-World War II era? Or are we assuming too much by thinking only Americans will be involved in the storyline of Black Ops? A careful analysis of the footage could lead you down either path.

In between footage of the various (presumed) historical conflicts are scenes of a soldier in some sort of military lab. A double-helix (or something similar) appears to flash on a monitor nearby, and a doctor’s soft voice attempts to lull the unknown patient into a sense of security. Doctor’s tools sit on a tray to the right of the patient (or prisoner). A date appears to be displayed on an unknown machine – 2010:03:2 (March 2, 2010?). The doctor (or torturer) speaks of trying to remember past events. He appears to be using devious means to make this a reality, causing great pain to whoever is strapped down, and eventually causing him to lose consciousness at the end of the trailer.

Suddenly, a missile launch is shown – it appears nuclear in nature, perhaps depicting an alternate history, where Americans launched nuclear warheads at Vietnam (like some of LBJ’s and Nixon’s advisors recommended). Or maybe it’s a Soviet missile, launched in retribution for America’s incursions into communist territory. Scientists in lab coats scramble following the launch. Subsequently, explosions are seen, soldiers in heated battle exchange fire in a wooded, dirt-ridden location, and a helicopter covered in American Army insignias crashes down to Earth, its heavy machineguns unable to stave off its foes. Soldiers in arctic gear, fighting in a snowy, unknown theater of battle, are shown stealthily assassinating their enemies. Men are seen repelling from a helicopter hovering above. And suddenly, you’re brought back to the same, dark laboratory, with the uneasy sound of the doctor’s voice. But it won’t take long for you to be thrust back into the battle.

A chopper, perhaps the one we saw crash earlier, is seen underwater, its crew attempting to get out of the hulking metal deathtrap before it’s too late. A shirtless soldier with ammunition around his chest and a canteen bouncing behind him is seen accompanying camouflaged soldiers. Could this be the Vietcong or North Vietnamese Army, or an indigenous anti-communist freedom fighter assisting the American troops? More Army-branded helicopters are seen hereafter, with soldiers fighting from above, and dragging their injured comrades off of the streets below. A hovercraft is briefly seen careening down a waterway, with helicopters raging behind it. Urban conflict galore is shown in subsequent scenes, the bloody toll of heated guerilla tactics all around. And then, you’re back in the dim, mysterious lab once more.

The end scenes show more of the same. A lot of the Army vehicles on various compounds appear to be from the Vietnam War era. A brave soldier is shown skydiving into an arctic abyss. More soldiers are shown rappelling from helicopters. An American soldier, with sleeves cut off, makes a slit-throat motion towards someone behind him. And after some more fiery explosions are shown from both land and air, perhaps the most mysterious footage of the entire trailer rounds everything out. A man in (what we assume is) an astronaut’s outfit is briefly seen, and then a high-flying aircraft, far above Earth, zooms forward.

But who is this detained man that we see going in and out of consciousness? One of the slightly more creative theories is that it’s actually Soap McTavish from Modern Warfare 2. If you remember, Soap sustained life-threatening wounds in the final battle of MW2. The final line of dialogue is Nikolai saying he, “knows a place” where they can treat Soaps wounds. Perhaps under the care of this mysterious voice that we hear echoing throughout the Black Ops trailer? Could this voice belong to some sort of mad scientist looking to extract Soap’s memory of some significant event from Vietnam that will give him the key to achieving his twisted and assuredly maniacal goals? Or to find, perhaps, the location of nuclear missiles that were never actually removed from Cuban soil during the missile crisis of the early ’60s?

Pretty much anything is possible. Use the comments section to give us your thoughts on which direction Black Ops will take, the era or eras it will feature and the specific battles that we’ll all get to play when the next Call of Duty launches on November 9, 2010.

The game, scheduled for release on June 1, 2010, has a thick plot that changes depending on the decisions a player makes. Even the smallest decisions can drastically alter the plot of the game and how the characters interact with you.

In Alpha Protocol you play a rookie CIA agent named Michael Thornton who is all wrapped up in a global conspiracy that has you interacting with a huge cast of non-player characters and the way you interact with them determines how they treat you. In one part of the game, Thornton goes back home to find a woman named Madison asleep in his bed. They obviously have a close relationship but everything in this game can change. As Thornton and Madison talk, dialogue boxes pop up so you can choose responses with a variety of choices depending on the situation and each response can change the plot and relationships between the characters. You can also skip the dialogue to go to the next scene in the game.

How you interact with the game’s characters will build up a reputation, which is unique to each NPC. If you interact with characters in the right way you build up your reputation of damage your rep as well. In a demo given by Sega, Madison and Thornton obviously were close to each other but in another demo of the game the relationship changed. This time Madison was hiding as Thornton entered the room and whacked him on the head twice and shocked him with one of his own gadgets. All interaction can change with all the non-player characters giving the game many possible consequences.

Although reputation and consequences are an important part of the game, the action sequences also play a big part. Powered by an RPG system that has you buying weapons or equipment with money you pick up, upgrading weapons with new accessories or ammo, and a robust skill system that lets you build Thornton into the kind of spy you want to play.

There’s nine skills you can train in all centered around weapons you use in the game, including pistols, shotguns, submachine guns, and so on. There are also specialized skills, such as stealth or breaking and entering, which you can upgrade as well.

You can keep upgrading your skills to get more proficient with that particular weapon or ability and after upgrading enough times youearn new skills to use in the field. For example, if you put enough points into stealth, you’ll eventually earn an active skill that will let you essentially move invisibly for a short amount of time. It can’t be used at a full run, of course, but it seems as if it will be valuable tool for those who are looking to play Alpha Protocol in a stealthy manner. So depending on the skills that you focus on improving, you can actually shape the kind of spy you want to be. A stealthy spy can actually get through the whole game without firing a shot and still complete their objective but there’s plenty of opportunity for combat too.

The game is played from a third-person perspective and the longer you aim the more accurate the shot will be. Using stealth allows you to sneak up close to the enemy and take them out quietly without drawing attention or firing a shot. Alpha Protocol is full of gadgets you would expect any international spy to have like electro-magnetic pulse grenades, radio mimics, incendiary grenades, and, of course, the ubiquitous first aid kits. Alpha Protocoñ looks like it offers the action of a shooter game with the thick, twisted plots of an RPG game that would keep the game interesting for a long time.

Cloaking devices that distort light, mechanical exoskeletons that double strength, and modular assault rifles that adapt to any situation are just some of the high-tech goodies available.

“War has changed,” says producer Jean Bernard Jacon, who claims that “the soldier of the future is an F-16 on legs.” Looking at the weapons list it’s clear that these soldiers pack a serious amount of heat, and they mean business.

Future Soldier is a futuristic story of the Ghosts, an elite military unit equipped with the latest in high-tech weaponry. A powerful nationalist faction has overthrown the Russian government and invaded the oil-rich Nordic countries. To avoid world war, the US sends in the Ghosts to tackle the nationalists and restore peace. You play the role of new recruit Kozak, just as the conflict is about to erupt. Although you spend most of the game controlling him, you also experience the war from the perspective of other characters, including a bodyguard, an engineer, and a civilian. You can choose one of four character classes to play as: recon, engineer, commander, and sniper. Each class is equipped with a range of high-tech weaponry that is based upon current government research. Ubisoft Paris says the majority of weapons featured in the game are currently being trialed in the US by research and development office DARPA, and expected to be used in future conflicts. Recon soldiers are equipped with the optical camouflage seen in the latest live-action trailer, which is based on research into “meta materials” that can distort light. The camouflage suit allows you to become almost invisible when you stand still and creates a glossy outline of your character when you move. The effect is similar to that of the alien cloaking device from the Predator films.

Engineers can destroy all electronics around them using an electromagnetic pulse. This weapon stops all communications within a small area and can disable vehicles that rely on electronics for navigation. Engineers can also control drones, which are small unmanned vehicles equipped with different types of weaponry and heavy armor. Drones can be used to enter areas of high enemy concentration and thin out the numbers, allowing human soldiers to more safely finish the job.

Commanders are the basic fighting class. Their main weapon is a modular assault rifle, which can be modified for different types of conflicts. The top part of the gun contains a fully automatic rifle, along with a square bayonet for cutting though barbed wire and for hand-to-hand combat. The bottom half of the weapon can host a range of different sub-weapons, including a shotgun and a grenade launcher. In addition to the rifle, engineers carry a portable mortar for destroying large installations and groups of enemies. Other members of your squad can spot enemies for you and pass the targeting information directly to the mortar. This works particularly well with the sniper class, who can spot targets in the distance.

You will be able to play the single-player campaign cooperatively in split-screen, or over Xbox Live. The campaign contains 14 missions, which Ubisoft told us should last a total of 12 to 14 hours. The game also supports 16 people in online multiplayer. You can play as any of the four classes across a variety of maps, which include urban, countryside, and aircraft-carrier environments. Standard modes such as Team Deathmatch and Capture the Flag will be available, though more will be announced before release. A leveling system has also been implemented, which rewards you with new weapons, upgrades, and a higher place in global leaderboards. You gain levels by collecting experience points, which are awarded in single-player and online modes.

Future Soldier’s biggest innovation is the new link-up system, which can be used in co-op and online multiplayer. It allows you to share abilities with teammates standing next to you on the battlefield. Link-up can be activated by pressing a single button, which gives control of your player to one of your teammates, making him or her the squad leader. Your character will then automatically follow the squad leader across the battlefield. You are only required to use the look stick to aim your gun and take out enemies, allowing you to provide cover to the rear without having to worry about losing sight of the squad leader. Less-experienced players can link up with veterans to learn the layout of maps, with the more-experienced player providing cover and guidance over voice chat. Veterans will also benefit, as abilities are magnified when linked with other players. For example, the optical camouflage of one player can be shared with others in the group, increasing its duration and giving it to players who do not have it equipped. Link-up is also beneficial to engineers, who can then pilot drones without losing the rest of the group.

Like previous games in the Ghost Recon series, Future Soldier will incorporate a cover system. Ubisoft showed us a small amount of gameplay, which had Kozak in the commander role taking cover behind cars, crates, and buildings. You have the ability to charge into an area and slide across the ground into cover, which looks impressive. Ubisoft was keen to point out that the emphasis has been shifted from long-range to short-range combat and that the cover system has been tightened up as a result. Also changed is the look of the game, which has a much more vibrant colour palette. In the sections we saw, greys and browns were mixed with bright blue skies and colourful weapon effects and explosions. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is due out on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC in the third quarter of 2010. A multiplayer beta is due in the summer, with invitations due to be given away with copies of Splinter Cell: Conviction.

I haven’t actually put any gametime into Ghost Recon: Future Soldier but as soon as it´s avaiable I know I’ll put some hours in learning all it’s secrets and cheat codes. It sounds like another great installment of the Ghost Recon franchise with a few high-tech twists thrown in. As soon as I get some gametime in I’ll be sure to add more tips to playing Ghost Recon: Future Soldier in a future post.

Battlefield Bad Company 2 is one of the most realistic fighting games and part of what gives the game it’s realism is the military vehicles. Bad company 2 can be played better if you know about the vehicles used by the military that are at your team’s disposal and of your enemies military vehicles as well. In another post. we’ll talk about strategies to use to match the class you are playing, with the vehicles being used, to get a strategic advantage over your opponents.

But for now, let’s look at the Bad Company 2 Vehicle, Military List:

Heavy Tank
The most powerful vehicle on the battlefield.

* The heavy tank excels at standing off and delivering withering bombardment from long range.
* It is particularly effective against other vehicles, and will make short work of buildings and barricades.
* Its gunner position gives it close in protection, and it has radar to warn of nearby infantry.
* These 60 ton behemoths are vulnerable in the rear however, so watch out for taking them into built up areas…

The Real M1A2 Tank

Notable features of the M1 Abrams include the use of a powerful gas turbine engine, the adoption of sophisticated composite armor, and separate ammunition storage in a blow-out compartment for crew safety. The M1 Abrams also has an NBC (Nuclear, Biological, Chemical) protection system that protects the crew for harsh battlefield conditions such as Nuclear fallout, poisonous gases, etc. It is one of the heaviest tanks in service, weighing in at close to 68 short tons (almost 62 metric tons).

The M1A2 is the Main Battle Tank of the USMC in the game. And it’s differences between the other main battle tanks are purely cosmetic. The sighting system used to line up shots for the main cannon and co-axial gun is very easy to use and works well in urban areas in the game. Long distance shots can be a bit harder since the M1’s sighting system does not indicate how much the shell will drop. The M1A2 has one advantage however: on the tanks in vanilla Battlefield 2, all tanks have a weak spot under the turret. The spot on the M1A2 can only be hit if the turret is pointing up. However, on the other two tanks, the weak spot is able to be hit without having the turret point up.

Light Tank
Excellent at infantry support.

* Light tanks are the jack of all trades, good one-on-one against most other vehicle classes.
* Bristling with defensive weaponry, the light tank is well protected and great for transporting squads in comparative safety.
* Light tanks do well in built up areas, but less armour means that they often need repair from the support class.
* In combination however, this pairing can be devastating – it doesn’t have the punch of the Heavy tank, but its versatility suits it to most battlefield situations.

M3A3 Bradley Tank

The Real M3A3 Bradley Tank

The M2 Bradley IFV (Infantry Fighting Vehicle) and M3 Bradley CFV (Cavalry Fighting Vehicle) are American Infantry Fighting Vehicles manufactured by BAE Systems Land and Armaments, formerly United Defense. As with other Infantry Fighting Vehicles, the Bradley is designed to transport infantry with armor protection while providing suppressive fire against hostile troops and armored vehicles. The M2 holds a crew of three: a commander, a gunner and a driver; and has room to comfortably seat six fully equipped soldiers; a full squad can fit inside, though quarters become incredibly cramped. The M3 typically conducts scout missions and carries two scouts in addition to the regular crew of three, although in current conflicts is often used chiefly as an infantry support platform. Both vehicles feature an M242 Bushmaster 25mm chain gun as a primary weapon system, with an integrated, dual-tube TOW system for anti-armor engagement.

T-90 MBT

The Real T-90 MBT

The T-90 is a Russian Main Battle Tank that is used by the Russian Armed Forces both in reality and in the Battlefield series. It is Russia’s rival to the M1A2 Abrams Main Battle Tank used by the United States Armed Forces. The T-90 in Battlefield 2 is the MBT of the MEC team. It has the same durability, firepower and speed of the M1A2 Abrams used by the USMC. The main differences however is the fact that the T-90’s crew hatch is vulnerable to another Tank when engaging toe-to-toe, and how the T-90 is slightly smaller that an M1A2.

In singleplayer, the T-90 is seen often throughout the beginning of the campaign. The player can find a driveable one in a Russian base in Crossing Over and a multitude must be destroyed during Acta Non Verba, Crossing Over, Par for the Course and Air Force One.

In multiplayer, it spawns regularly on multiple vehicle based conquest and rush maps. It has good balance between speed and armour, and its main cannon can prove to be the most powerful weapon in the game, but it lacks in maneuverability; a player can easily sneak up on it and place C4 or a Tracer Dart. A second player can jump in and command the machine gun for effective anti-infantry purposes.

Armored Car

A lightly armored transport.

* Good for quick insertion and providing fire support with its turret mounted .50cal.
* Will get you where you need to go, but be ready to bail if you come under heavy fire.

The Real Humvee

The High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or Humvee) is a military 4WD motor vehicle created by AM General. It has largely supplanted the roles formerly served by smaller Jeeps such as the M151 1/4 ton MUTT, the M561 “Gama Goat”, their M718A1 and M792 ambulance versions, the CUCV, and other light trucks. Primarily used by the United States military, it is also by a number of other countries and organizations and in civilian adaptations.

The HMMWV is the main Medium Vehicle of the United States Marine Corps in Battlefield 2 and can hold up to 4 players (1 driver,1 gunner,2 passengers). Unlike the HMMWV other counterparts, the passengers in the rear are in a straight, vertical line while the MEC GAZ-3937 and the PLA NJ-2046 have a horizontal arrangement.

Vehicle Positions in Battlefield 2

Driver
* Protected from most weapons. Barrett snipers can pierce the windshield, and the window to the left of the driver is open, therefore making him sniper bait if he is stationary for too long. Also, AT missiles fired at the window can kill the driver with the explosion.

Gunner
* Upper body is exposed, but the gunner can duck in the vehicle to avoid fire. They are also vulnerable to gunfire going into the back of the HMMWV.

Rear passengers
* Body is completely exposed in the rear.
* Gunners are able to perform infantry tasks in the rear, but are unable to move. Engineers are also able to repair the vehicle by using the wrench while they are a passenger.

Attack Helicopter
Provides devastating air support.

* The Attack helo’s mix of rockets and chaingun can lay waste to both vehicles and infantry alike.
* Vulnerable to small arms fire, the Attack Helo particularly suffers if there are any AA emplacements in play.

AH-60 Black Hawk

The Real UH-60 Black Hawk

The UH-60 Black Hawk is a four-bladed, twin-engine, medium-lift utility helicopter manufactured by Sikorsky Aircraft. Sikorsky submitted the S-70 design for the United States Army’s Utility Tactical Transport Aircraft System (UTTAS) competition in 1972. The Army designated the prototype as the YUH-60A and selected the Black Hawk as the winner of the program in 1976, after a fly-off competition with the Boeing Vertol YUH-61. The UH-60A entered service with the Army in 1979, to replace the UH-1 Iroquois as the Army’s tactical transport helicopter. In Battlefield Bad Company 2 the UH-60 Black Hawk (the real version) is called the AH-60 Black Hawk (the BBC2 game version).
Artillery
Usually only available to support the initial phase of an attack.

* The artillery’s closely grouped barrage causes havoc amongst even the best organized enemy.
* Using satellite imagery to pinpoint its target, it fires a quick succession of rounds to maximize damage.

Artillery Vehicles Military

Over the past ten years arms manufacturers have been offering tank gun turrets shoe-horned on to lighter armored personnel carriers. The 125mm, 120mm or 105mm anti-tank gun is indeed a fearsome weapon but its main use is killing heavy and super heavy tanks at very long range.

Patrol Boat Light (PBL)

The Real Patrol Boat

The Patrol Boat Light (PBL) is a high-speed watercraft that is used mainly for transport and troop support. The PBL is a maneuverable watercraft armed with two 20mm automatic grenade launches located in the front and back of the boat. The boat can fit up to four soldiers which means a whole squad can be transported and inserted into enemy territory.

Played correctly, the engineer can make or break the success of the team. Here are some tips for playing this class the right way.

If you’re interested in repairing and destroying vehicles, as well as excelling at close-range combat, then the Engineer Kit may be worth checking out. Check out our favorite hints and tips for using the SMG, RPG, Anti-Tank Mines, and Repair tool in Bad Company 2.

Bad Company 2

If you’ve ever driven a vehicle in Battlefield: Bad Company 2, then chances are that you have found yourself on the wrong end of a well-placed RPG or anti-tank mine a time or two.

Of course, chances are equally good that you’ve been saved just in the nick of time by a repair-tool wielding friendly engineer.

When it comes to repairing or destroying vehicles, the Bad Company 2 engineer has no equal (nor any competitors, as they are they only ones who can do so), but that’s not all this versatile class can do. Check out our full guide to the Engineer Kit.
Engineer Kit Weapons
PP-2000 SMG

The engineer’s weapon of choice is the SMG. This rapid-firing weapon excels at close range, but is severely limited at longer distances. Remember this when you’re moving across a map. Stay close to cover, this way any enemies you encounter will be on your terms.

You will not win a long-range battle with a sniper, and even the assault and medic kits have longer range weapons than you do. Unlocking the red dot and 4X scopes for your SMG can increase your effective range, but in general it’s best to do all you can to ensure you face enemies in close proximity.

Up close, though, no kit can pour as much lead into a foe as the Engineer. All SMGs deliver a lot of bullets very quickly, but there are subtle differences between them.

Some, like the UMP and the SCAR-L, deliver approximately 600 rounds per minute while others, including the UZI and PP-2000, deliver nearly twice as many. The key difference here is the damage of individual bullets. The rapid firing guns tend to do less damage per bullet, but make up for it by delivering far more lead.

SCAR L Carbine SMG

Deciding which weapon to use comes down to your personal style. Do you have the discipline to fire in short bursts, delivering only enough bullets to take down your target, or do you subscribe more to the “spray and pray” school? Those who fire indiscriminately with a PP-2000 are going to find themselves spending more time reloading than killing, so that’s something to consider when choosing a gun.

As far as backup weapons, the tracer dart pistol is a fantastic choice for an engineer. You will constantly be finding yourself near vehicles, both enemy and friendly, and being able to tag them before firing off an anti-tank round can make a huge difference in your accuracy and effectiveness.

As an engineer in Bad Company 2, vehicles are going to be a huge focus of your existence. You are the only one who can both repair friendly vehicles and effectively deal with enemy armor. Stick close to friendly vehicles, riding inside them where it’s convenient.

If a tank starts to take damage, for example, see if you can hop out and repair from a safe location, keeping the tank between you and enemy fire. Your repair efforts can greatly extend the life of a vehicle, giving the driver ample time to locate and destroy the attackers.

Some Bad Company 2 vehicles, like the transport choppers and the Hummer, can actually be repaired while riding inside them. In the Blackhawk, for example, choose the positions at the rear of the helicopter, not on one of the Vehicles. This will allow you to switch to your repair tool. If you angle it just right (I find pointing toward the cockpit works best), you can actually repair the vehicle while it’s in the air, making it nearly indestructible.

This is a great way to rack up a bunch of repair points while keeping your team’s efforts alive.

The repair tool can also be used to destroy enemy vehicles, if you can get close enough. If you’re out of RPG rounds or anti-tank mines, you can always rush in and do some damage with it.
RPGs and Anti-Tank Mines

Anti-Tank Warfare

Your RPG can be used to do massive damage to enemy vehicles. It has a fantastic range (just be sure to compensate for gravity) and can take out helicopters in just one or two hits.

One good strategy is to position yourself near an enemy chopper, then fire on it right as the pilot jumps in. It takes a second for them to lift off, and if you wait for the pilot to enter the chopper, you will get much more credit for the kill. You can utilize this strategy from across a map, provided you’re accurate enough with your rockets.

Anti-Tank mines can effectively neutralize an enemy’s vehicles when used to maximum effectiveness. Place them on well-traveled roads, as well as at the entrance to your base and the exit of your enemy’s. Chances Bad Company 2 Engineer are clever enemies will be vigilant for mines near your objective, but will never think to look for them close to their own base.

One of my favorite strategies is to place mines directly in front of newly-spawned enemy armor. The enemies will jump inside and hit the gas, only to be instantly killed by your well-placed mine.
Rush Mode Tactics
A lot of people don’t realize that M-Com Stations can be destroyed by bringing down the buildings in which they are housed and by attacking them directly, both of which are tactics to which the engineer is well-suited.

Enemies will rush to a charge placed on a station, but most won’t bat an eye as you use carefully-placed RPG shots to bring down a building or sit inside and fire rockets directly at the objective. Both are very effective ways of destroying a station.

The engineer can be one of the most enjoyable classes in Bad Company 2 when played correctly. Consider the weaknesses of the class, and concentrate on the things you do best to have the greatest success in the game.

Vehicles are your playthings, whether destroying or repairing them, nobody does either quite as well as the engineer.

This front line shock trooper excels at capturing objectives, and is equipped to deal with practically every situation on the battlefield.

Bad Company 2

The Assault Kit soldier in Battlefield: Bad Company 2 is pretty much a jack of all trades, master of none. You can support your teammates using your ammo kits, but not nearly as well as a medic can with his healing and resurrecting abilities.

You can take out enemies at range by adding a rifle scope to your assault rifle, but not nearly as well as a sniper, who also has the advantage of camouflage.

You can also damage enemy vehicles with your grenade launcher, but not nearly as effectively as an engineer with anti-tank mines and an RPG.

The advantage of playing the Assault class, however, is that you can do all of these things simultaneously. You’re capable of responding to practically any threat on the battlefield, and this versatility makes the assault kit one of the most popular in Bad Company 2.
Assault Kit General Tactics
As an assault trooper, you are the workhorse of your team. You are the guy who is supposed to go out there and capture or defend objectives. Every support class exists to lend you their assistance, using the Assault Kit, you truly are the tip of the sword.

One on one, you will win most encounters, provided the enemy doesn’t see you first.
Ammo Kit Tactics
1911 .45 Pistol

You never have to worry about running out of ammunition when using the assault kit, as you can always just drop an ammo box at your feet and resupply. Don’t forget to share the wealth by dropping them near any teammates you see, especially those whose icons are blinking that they are in need of a resupply.

If you happen across a friendly sniper who has found a good spot (or if you spawn on one from your squad), drop an ammo kit at their feet. A well-positioned sniper in Bad Company 2 can do a lot of damage to the enemy, but is forced to move when they run out of ammo. Your ammo kit will ensure you are well-covered from range as long as that sniper remains undiscovered.

Drop ammo kits near objectives, especially if they have been designated by a squad member (or yourself).

Assault Kit Soldier Tips

Soldiers tend to spend a lot of time defending or attacking these positions, giving you ample opportunity to earn points for resupplying friendly troops.

In anti-tank warfare, a smart Assault Kit soldier can be an engineer’s best friend. At most, an engineer can only carry three anti-tank mines, but with the help of your ammo kit he can literally blanket the entire approach with near-instant death for any enemy vehicle that approaches.

It’s easy to maneuver around three anti-tank mines, but avoiding ten or twenty gets a bit difficult.

The most popular assault kit weapon in Bad Company 2, at least for those still progressing through the ranks, seems to be the XM8 prototype. This rifle is extremely well-rounded, with decent damage and accuracy, and a slower rate of fire lessening the effects of recoil. Combined with a red dot scope, the XM8 will serve you well in most situations.

For close-range situations, such as defending an M-COM station, the F2000 is an excellent choice. It’s high rate of fire and low per-bullet damage makes it feel more like an engineer’s SMG, and it’s a great choice when trying to defend a single doorway or objective.

Later on, the M16A2 is an excellent choice for those looking to take out enemies at medium to long ranges. Equipped with a 4X rifle scope, this burst-fire weapon allows you to fire accurately at all ranges, and can take down most enemies in a single burst if you aim high.
Assault Kit Weapon Attachments

Assault Kit Soldier

Adding to the versatility of the Assault Kit in Bad Company 2 is the ability to use several different types of rifle attachments, the 40MM grenade, smoke grenade, and the shotgun.

40MM grenades are incredibly useful in a myriad of situations. Use them to take out stubborn enemies hiding behind cover, or a group of enemies out in the open. The grenade launcher can also be used to create new paths through a map, blowing holes in walls and taking out other obstructions with ease.

In Rush Mode, the grenade launcher can assist your efforts to destroy and enemy M-COM station in several ways. You can of course use them to clear a room of defenders, but they are also useful for attacking the station directly (they can be destroyed with direct damage) or for bringing down a building housing an objective (this results in an instant destruction).

If the objective is housed in a destructible building, use your 40MM grenades to take Thompson Sub Machine Gun out the remaining vertical walls. Eventually, you will bring the building crashing down upon the objective, killing any stubborn defenders still hiding within.

Smoke grenades have multiple uses, as well. The obscuring smoke can be used for cover when planting a charge on an objective, keeping snipers and other defenders from being able to pick you off from range. You can also deploy a series of them to cover the advance of your team.

One of my personal favorite smoke grenade uses is sniper frustration. I love landing one right on top of an enemy sniper, rendering him completely ineffective until the smoke dissipates.

Bad Company 2 Multiplayer

The shotgun is a great way to combine the long-range effectiveness of your assault rifle with the short-range punch of a shotgun. Use your rifle when clearing the outside and roof of a building, then switch to the shotgun attachment when clearing the inside, giving you the ability to kill most close-range defenders or attackers with a single shot.

The Assault Kit can be one of the most enjoyable in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. With unmatched versatility, as well as unlimited ammo and the ability to support teammates, there is the potential to earn huge amounts of experience to go towards those Bad Company 2 unlockables.

But make no mistake – while the Medic is a great support class it can also should be taken seriously as an offensive class thanks to the Medic’s amazing weapons selection.
Healing and Killing
Games like Bad Company 2 are violent, but they do have a place for people who are just as happy helping out their teammates as shooting people in the head. That place is the Medic class, and they excel at helping out teammates by healing them and reviving them. But with that said, the Medic isn’t just about healing. They also have some formidable weapons which allow them to dish out serious damage. This guide will help you get the most from your time as a Medic.
The Medic’s Role
Bad Company 2 Medic GuideThe main role of the Medic is fairly obvious – heal your teammates. There are two ways which the medic goes about doing this.

The first is by deploying medkits. Bad Company 2 does use the regenerative health mechanic, so wounded players will eventually heal on their own. This can take some time, however, and the medkit helps players which are wounded by healing them instantly. The medkit is deployed on the ground and can be left for teammates to use while the medic moves on, so there really isn’t any reason not to deploy a few medkits each time you spawn.

The other tool the Medic has is the defibrillator. The defib can be used to essentially resurrect dead players who have yet to re-spawn. This obviously useful, but it is more powerful than you probably imagine. A single Medic left alive in a room can defib two or three allies in ten seconds. Suddenly the room full of people the enemy killed is full with healthy soldiers again. It is an incredible power which can change the course of the game.
The Medic’s Weaknesses

The big weakness of the Medic is the complete lack of anti-armor weapons. The Medic really has no options when going up against enemy tanks or even light vehicles besides running away. This is actually not a huge problem in some situations because the use of armor isn’t a major factor on all maps all the time, but when an enemy tank is in the area and tearing your team to shreds it can be frustrating to be unable to do anything but try to revive dead teammates.

Another weakness of the Medic is one that many players might not think of at first – the red hat. All Medics wear a red hat. Enemy teammates will instantly know that you are a medic if they are at all close to you or have a scope and the red hat is like a big target on your head. It makes it much harder to hide behind bushes or other cover because the red hat sticks out. This is particularly bad on winter maps where the red hat is like a beacon when it is contrasted to the background of white snow.
Medic Weapons
Bad Company 2 Medic WeaponsDespite being a healer, the Medic’s main weapon, the light machinegun, is awesome. Some argue that it is the best overall weapon in Bad Company 2, and although I don’t quite agree I do think it is about on par with the Assault Rifles the Assault class has access to. The light machineguns in the game have huge ammo capacities and can lay down incredibly deadly swathes of covering fire against enemy positions. However, light machineguns are also quite accurate when used in short bursts. The idea of sniping with a light machinegun may seem silly, but it is actually possible to take out opponents several hundred feet away without problem.

You’ll want to be using that machinegun, too, because the Medic really doesn’t have any other weapons of note. As mentioned, the Medic does not have any anti-armor options. No C4, no mortar strikes, no RPGs of any kind. The Medic has access to the all kit weapons, of course, but there is really no reason for any Medic to ever use them. The light machinegun is great and is much more capable at any range than any of the all kit weapons.
Medic Tips

* Learn to control your machinegun. When fired in bursts the machinegun can hit targets across the map with an incredible amount of accuracy. Just tap the trigger lightly to fire off these short, accurate bursts. However, the macheingun can also be turned into an inaccurate hail of death if the trigger is laid down. This is best at short to mid range.

* The defibrillator is a great tool for helping teammates, but it isn’t necessary to use it on every single teammate who dies. If your teammate died because he ran out in the open and was mowed down instantly by three enemies, don’t go wading out to try and save him. You’ll just get yourself killed, and even if you somehow manage to survive it is very likely the enemy will simply kill your teammate a second time. As an Assault I’ve been in situations where a Medic has revived me three times in a row and I died instantly because an enemy sniper was just sitting in cover and picking me off. This did nothing except ruin my kill-death ratio.

* Use medikits! There is no reason not to. Many medkits forget to use medkits because they are too busy trying to find enemies to shoot. Medkits will outlive you, and there is no known cap on how many you can deploy. So deploy them at positions where your teammates are likely to stand and rack in the points as they heal themselves.

Able to destroy the enemy defenses from afar, the Recon Kit soldier can take out an opponent from half a mile away with a single high-powered shot and call in mortar strikes to wipe out fortified enemy positions. You can even used it at close range and still aim quickly.

If you love picking off enemies from afar though, then Bad Company 2 Recon Kit is your class of choice. Depending on how accurate you are, you will need to choose the right weapon. If you have the patience and skill to pluck head shots from extreme distances, the a bolt-action rifle is your best bet. If you’d rather finish off enemies with a barrage of several shots and not deal with reacquiring targets between trigger pulls, then perhaps one of the semi-auto sniper rifles would be best for you.

I like bolt-action rifles myself and as long as you take the time to aim so you can hit your target in one shot you won’t have to worry about reloading for a second shot.

Each of the Recon Kit’s weapons has its uses, depending on the situation. If you’re in a pitched defense with most of the available cover gone, or if you’re respawning with the knowledge that you’ll be rushing in to take out the last few defenders, then you might consider affixing a red dot sight to one of the semi auto (or fully auto, like the VSS) rifles and taking out bad guys at close range.

The VSS can empty a full 20 round clip incredibly quickly when the trigger is held down, and each of those rounds has the punch of a sniper rifle bullet. It’s a far more powerful alternative to an engineer’s SMG.

When choosing a backup weapon, consider whether you might need to be able to defend yourself at close range. If you’re in a spot where the other team has been known to rush toward, or if you’re going to head through hostile territory to get to your favorite spot, a pistol is probably your best choice. If, however, you are going to find yourself in close proximity to the majority of your enemy’s vehicles, consider carrying a tracer pistol to mark targets and help out your engineer allies.

Sniping Tactics

One of the keys to effective sniping is positioning. The ideal place to set up shop is well-hidden and not in the direct line of sight for those you are shooting at. If you’re playing rush mode, for example, and your team is attacking from a hillside, then right smack in the middle of that hillside is not going to be a very effective position (The initial attack on Isla Innocentes is a good example of this). Instead, try to find spots off to the right or left of the main flow of attack/defense combat, places where the casual eye will not fall upon you.

No spot is safe forever (those you kill will get to see your spot while waiting to respawn), but a flanking position can keep you hidden for much longer than one right in the middle of the fight.

Concealment is another important consideration for a sniper. Try and find a spot where you are mostly concealed by brush or the terrain, limiting opportunities for enemies to spot you and providing you with cover. Hiding is a very important part of sniping, never sit out in the open.

Recon Kit Tactics
As a sniper, you have two duties to your team. The first is obvious: shoot as many enemies as possible. Find positions where you can support your teammates as they capture or defend objectives. Make sure you have a good view of an M-Com station, for example, so that you can quickly dispatch any foe who attempts to set or disarm a charge.

Keep an eye on any advancing teammates, there is no feeling quite like getting a head shot on an unsuspecting enemy who thought he had the drop on one of your allies.

Watch mounted guns and anti-tank weapons as much as you can. These weapons can decimate your advancing teammates, and soldiers using them are easy pickings due to their stationary nature.

Bad Company 2 Sniping Victim

The second, and arguably equally important, duty of the sniper is to spot enemy soldiers. Calling out the location of defenders or incoming attackers can be a huge advantage to your team, and the nature of the sniper (concealed positioning, zoomed point of view) make him perfect for this duty. It can be annoying early on, having to press the button to call out any enemies you spot, but it becomes much easier once you unlock the spotting scope, which does so automatically.

Advanced warning of an enemy offensive can be the difference between a successful defense and being totally overwhelmed. Make sure you are spotting all targets you see, even the ones you intend to dispatch yourself.

Another important tool to the success of your spotting is your motion mines. Deploy them around your sniping spot to receive advance notice of incoming enemies. Another good tactic is to toss a couple near an objective you’re trying to capture or defend. When they’re active, you’ll know not only that an enemy is approaching, but from which direction. Don’t forget to use them every time you spawn.
Recon Kit Rush Mode Tactics

Many people forget that planting a charge on a Rush Mode M-Com station is not the only way to destroy the objective. Stations can be destroyed both by collapsing the buildings in which they reside and by damaging them directly. Using the Recon Kit, you have the ability to do both using your C4 and mortar strikes.

Call in mortar strikes on top of buildings that contain objectives as often as possible. You will eventually destroy the building and save your team the trouble of rushing in and defending a charge. You can also use the mortars to damage stations that are out in the open.

C4 can serve both purposes, as well. Use well-placed charges to bring down a building, or simply place them on the objective and damage it directly. Most defenders will rush in when a charge is planted, but few will respond to you damaging the station directly or discreetly planting charges inside a house.

Assault Rifles
The general purpose weapon of the Assault class:

Effective at all ranges but dominant in none.

Firing in bursts will maintain accuracy, and use the sights to zero in for a headshot.

The underslung grenade launcher that’s fitted as standard on all Assault rifles adds destructive capability, and helps keep enemy heads down.

Rates of fire and damage will differ with each model; find the one that suits your style best.

Sniper Rifles
A superior long range weapon, the Recon class sniper rifle is unmatched at range.

Demanding patience and a steady hand, zero in for the one-shot kill.

Bear in mind that at extended ranges you may need to lead your target to score a hit.

There are 2 main classes of sniper rifle, bolt action and semi-auto – one packs more punch, while the other will allow you more rapid fire.

And try not to get caught in close quarters — firing from the hip doesn’t suit this gun.

Shotguns
Unmatched in point-blank efficiency, the shotgun deals massive damage at extreme short range, as fitting the Demolition class.

Designed for quick reaction shots, zooming will yield only minor benefit, but the cloud of pellets more than compensates for any lack of accuracy.

Don’t try to go toe-to-toe with snipers – the effectiveness of the shotgun declines rapidly at range.

Choose between pump action or semi-auto versions.

Submachine Guns
The Specialist class silenced submachine gun has the highest rate of fire of any weapon.

Specializing in close quarter combat, the SMG nevertheless retains some effectiveness at range.

Fire in short bursts over distance but let rip up close — watch your ammo levels though, you’ll eat through magazines in no time.

Rates of fire and damage differ for each version.

Light Machineguns
The Light machinegun is the support class weapon of choice, specializing in laying down large amounts of concentrated fire.

If you need to pin down an enemy at mid-range, this is the gun for you.

With all the shaking from firing the weapon, it’s not the most accurate, but sheer volume of bullets will counter that.

Watch out for low ammo levels – the gun is heavy, so reloading is time-consuming, make sure to pick your moment.

As with the other automatics, rate of fire and damage will vary for each.

Bad Company Gadgets

Tracer Dart Pistol
Used by the specialist, the tracer dart pistol attaches a transponder to enemies, which emits a high frequency signal that links up to the guidance system of friendly rockets.

When the dart is in place, all demolitions class will be advised, and are then able to lock on and launch a homing missile at the target.

While not smart enough to navigate streets, the missile will home inexorably in on the unfortunate target.

Though this requires a high degree of coordination, skilled squads will be able to link up and utilize this combination to deadly effect.

Mortar Strike
The mortar strike allows player to call in mortar barrages from off map batteries that will suppress and area and cause huge destruction.

The mortars use anti-personnel warheads, and so are largely ineffective against armored targets, but will tear through buildings and infantry causing huge damage.

Motion Sensor
Using miniaturised motion sensing technology, the recon class is able to throw a limited lifetime sensor that will reveal all hostiles on the minimap.

This can be used to aid a team-mate’s advance, showing him the layout of enemy positions, or can also be helpful to alert the sniper if he has decided to hole up for a while. Thanks to Skate Ziland and Planet Battlefield for providing the screencaps.

Most of them have gotten really good at it too so it just makes good sense that the first-person shooter skills players have learned over the last couple of month would translate real well over to EA’s forth coming Bad Company 2, being similar at face value.

Bad Company 2 Live demo is full of shooters that can’t shoot fish in a barrel, can’t arm an M-COM and possibly the worst offense of all, couldn’t spot a Bradly if it left a track mark across the back of their skull. Sure you can learn all the cheats you want, but if you don’t know how to play as a team live then you’re missing out on a world of fun. Well worry not, here’s How To Not Be A Noob On Battlefield Bad Company 2.

Learn To Spot and Do It Always
It´s imperative that you quickly let everyone on your team know where the enemy is hiding, flush them out and fix them from all angles. Do this by placing your site on an opposing player and pushing the Back (on Xbox360) or Select (on PS3) button. Yeah, that button. We know it’s normally reserved for game options and it’s usual job is to bring up maps or select something but just push it!

If you hear your teammates saying, “There’s an enemy hiding behind a rock with a radio-active twinkie, or something similar, that audio cue is accompanied by a small, bright, red arrow directly above your enemies’ head. This indicator also appears on-screen for all your teammates for a limited time allowing them to turn their sites in the enemy’s direction to blast away at them in concert with you. Congratulation! You´ve just contributed far more than you ever have playing Bad Company 2.

Now do this all the time constantly even if it means having to practicing daily finger yoga to prevent your thumb from coming off with the left stick. It is that important!

Know Your Role
“I´m a sniper. I’m a sniper.” No, you’re not a sniper. The closest thing to being a sniper in Bad Company 2 is the Recon class. Yeah, it looks like you’re a sniper. You’ve got a high-powered rifle with a high-powered zoom and a sick ass guilly suit to hide in the brush, but there´s more than that. In fact, there’s more to each class than what the title let’s on. You need to know how to use all of them properly and don’t try to do stuff that’s too far outside the strength of your class.

Yeah it’s a no-brainer but you would be surprised how many times someone cries, “How do I get the machine gun? “There’s no heavy class on my screen.” Here’s what you need to know.

Assault
Shoot people with short bursts at medium to long distances. Use your grenade launcher when bad guys bunch up. Refill your teams supplies if you hear them ask for it. It´s not just some ambient noise they are screaming. They need more ammo to kill more bad guys and will say so when they’re running low. You give it to them.

Medic Class
Throw medic kits on the ground near your buddies to heal them. Hit dead guys who look like lightning bolts in your HUD with defibrillators to revive them and gain reinforcement tickets. Most importantly, stand your ground and light some enemies up with your machine gun. Using your machine gun with sustained bursts will actually cause you to gain accuracy.

Recon Class
Shoot people from far away while hiding. Run at the tanks and plant explosive on them. Calmly run in the other direction when encountering anyone holding a gun.

Engineer
Hide most of the time and engage enemies at short range in short bursts. Hide some more, pop out and send an RPG at the sides or back of a tank or other armored vehicle. For friendly vehicles nearby, help them out by magically repairing it with your impact wrench thing.

Don’t be a wimp but don’t waste tickets either.
In Modern Warfare you can be a wimp and get away with it. Much of the time even the good players are camping behind either a refrigerator or in a bathroom stall. On the other hand there’s very little downside to weak players running out with guns blazing. If you get shat and killed you come back in a few seconds with full ammo and re-enter the meat grinder.

Chances are that someone on your team will get hot and order up a tactical nuke, meaning that you win and you got to eat a bowl of Captain Crunch. But not so for Bad Company 2. Having only one really good teammate means you still lose. Battlefield is more like the electric slide than a break dance. Your teammates need you to balance hiding like a wimp with running out into the open and taking ground or objectives when necessary. When you need to occupy a building, advance on an enemy or sacrifice yourself to blow up a high value target, do it. If things go well, someone will revive you, if not, they’ll see you on the other side.

That said, their are two punishments associated with dieing and you should avoid subjecting yourself to both.
1. You have to wait to respawn or wait for an enemy to do bad stuff to you like steal your ride or blow up your apartment.
2. When you’re on offense you have a limited number of ticket, each ticket representing a new life. When the ticket count reaches zero, the game is over and you lose.

Think Before You Spawn
After dieing you can either respawn your current class or on, yes, literally “ON” one of your squad mates. Before clicking your birthplace check it out. Is there a new tank gleaming in the desert sun at your base? Maybe you should be the proud owner of it. Is a teammate arming a bomb and needs help defending it? Pop out of his butt and heal him. If he’s in a no win situation don’t subject yourself to instant death too. This is not Thelma and Louise.

Use Everything At Your Disposal
A lot of people play their style of play and never deviate from it. In Bad Company 2, as in real war, you don’t get into decide that you’re going to fight one way all the time. In fact, there’s lots of stuff to do that’s not running a mile to the bomb and desperately trying to arm it. You can and should pilot a radio controlled helicopter to spot enemies from the air, jump on a quad 4 runner and quickly blank your opponent, shoot a mini-gun at a fast moving black-hawk helicopter, position a tank on a hill with a long barrel gun and rain death down on your enemies, transport your buddies while mowing down trees to increase line-of-site to the target and lots more stuff that you’ll figure out when you start hitting buttons inside a vehicle.

You should do these things now because you are bored of walking and also because you will win if you do them in moderation. Large explosions from tanks or hellfire air-strikes can blow walls and people out of structures and you can rack up lots of points by just spotting, spotting and spotting some more runners for your mates on the ground to exterminate. Try swooping down with a UAV and bowling down some enemies all at once. It’s fun and very effective.

Lastly, if you don’t do these thing, you will complain that the people on the other side are cheating when they do them to you. And that would make you a noob. Yes the UAV is a radio-controlled helicopter. You´ve probably seen UAV’s in other games or movies but this one looks like a mini Apache helicopter. To pilot the UAV find the computer monitor with anti-glare hood over it near your base. If an opposing team is putting the serious hurt of your team with their UAV, send someone to take out the operator or better yet, light up their computer terminal like it’s Christmas at the Griswalds.

Aim high and be patient. Everything is affected by gravity. This is just a fact of life. Aim high at objects far away and lead moving targets like airplanes or helicopters. It takes a while to get used to it but you will When firing at distant targets, you’ll have to wait for the bullets to actually reach the targets before the target is hit and this just adds to the realism and suspense of Bad Company 2.

Switch Kits
When you kill an enemy he will drop what looks like his gun. It’s not actually his gun. It’ more than a gun, it’s his soul that is contained into a magic idol that looks like his gun. Picking it up will cause you to switch kits but retain your existing outward appearance. For example, you’ll keep your guille if you respawned as an Recon but pick up the Engineer kit. You should do this not if you have a midlife crisis and get tired of playing your current class but you should to it when it’s to your tactical advantage. For instance, let’s say that a firefight just took place between an enemy Medic and your buddy who is a Recon and both of them have died. Pick up the dead medic’s medic kit, revive your buddy and switch back to being an Engineer or whatever class you were playing. Think devilishly and pick up fallen kits when it makes sense.

Use the back button for other things too like communicating with your buddies and telling them things like, “I need ammo, Attack Bravo and Hey, I just got shot in the face and need some serious band-aids.”

Also, you can’t go prone like in Modern Warfare 2, You can crouch and stand. I know, it’s not realistic but quit complaining and go shoot someone.

Similar to previous titles in the series the game is played out on large maps with vehicles, aircraft and other equipment as playable elements.

Looking for cheats and codes or for how to play as a team on Xbox 360 Live or PlayStation 3 Network see Battlefield Bad Company 2 – How Not To Be A Noob

Differentiating itself from other games of this genre the player is allowed more freedom than is typical. Players can score points by performing a variety of tasks that are not directly engaging with opposition players. For example the “engineer” class can score points through the repair of various equipment and vehicles.

A key gameplay feature introduced by its predecessor, Bad Company, is destructible environments. The improved system is called “Destruction 2.0″. It now allows players to completely collapse a building as opposed to only blowing out walls. The game also introduces bullet drop, a gravitational effect that causes shots from most weapons to drop over long distances.

Bad Company 2 features 15 vehicles, including new additions, such as the UH-60 Black Hawk, a quad bike, a two-man patrol boat, a personal watercraft, a ZU-23 mounted on a BTR-D armored personnel carrier, and a UAV helicopter controlled via remote computer terminals.

The currently available maps are set in various environments from South America and the mountainous regions along the borders of Russia.

Multiplayer
The multiplayer gameplay is designed to be a tactical, team based FPS, which the players can work together to utilize many of the vehicles such as various tanks, helicopters and even an unmanned aerial vehicle. Players choose from a set of weapon kits before each spawn, the number of which has been further reduced from Bad Company’s five down to four: Assault, Engineer, Recon, and Medic (with the Specialist and Demolition kits condensed into the Engineer class). In addition to the hand grenades and sidearms standard for all classes, each class also has an initial primary weapon and a pair of gadgets unique to that class. A customizable weapon selection menu is also new to the Bad Company series (similar to unlocks in Battlefield 2 and Battlefield 1943).

Gaining experience points allows a player to unlock and use different weapons and gadgets, some only usable by a given class and some available to any class that player uses. There are also unlockable items that can modify the game’s firearms, such as ACOGs, reflex sights, underbarreled 40mm grenade launchers, smoke grenades, magnum bullets or 12 gauge slugs. Players can also customize their soldiers with ceramic body armor, lightweight combat gear, and Bandoliers for extra ammunition. The player can also be ranked up 50 times by gaining experience points throughout the game .

Multiplayer game types
Rush
Players must defend or destroy pairs of M-COM stations for as long as the attacking team’s respawn tickets hold out. An M-COM station can be destroyed by planting a charge, using conventional weapons or when a building is collapsed down on it.
Conquest
Players must capture and hold flags for as long as the enemy respawn tickets hold out. Every kill makes the enemy lose one ticket, and enemy tickets constantly decrease when a team controls more than half of the flags on the map. Vehicles unlock as control points are held.
Squad Deathmatch
Up to four squads and one Infantry Fighting Vehicle roam the map. First squad to score fifty kills get the win.
Squad Rush
Squad Rush puts a squad of four players versus another squad of four players for a max of eight player matches of Rush.

The experience points used to unlock the above items are awarded for performing actions conducive to the goals of the player’s team, such as eliminating enemy players, healing teammates, or capturing or defending points of interest. Bonuses to the base number of points can be awarded under certain circumstances (such as achieving a headshot in the process of eliminating an enemy player). A dog tag system as seen in Battlefield 2142, Battlefield 1943 and Battlefield: Bad Company returns, awarding players trophies of sorts in the form of opponents’ dog tags when they defeat the opponent with a melee attack. It uses PunkBuster to protect the game from cheaters in online multiplayer matches.

On October 19, 2009, game developer DICE posted a Twitter announcement stating the game will have dedicated server support. This was in response to Infinity Ward’s announcement on October 17 that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would not support dedicated servers. Players will also be able to use party chat for each game mode.

Ranks
There are 50 ranks in Battlefield: Bad Company 2. In order to be promoted through the ranks, players must gain experience. There are a variety of ways to gain experience, such as killing an enemy, getting a kill assist, arming or disarming an objective, destroying an objective or repairing a vehicle. Teamwork with squads is encouraged by offering more experience points.

Single Player Campaign
Characters
For the majority of the single player campaign, the player controls Private Preston Marlowe. Marlowe is part of a squad formerly representing a misfit company in a fictional United States Army battalion known as “Bad Company.” Other members of the squad include technology expert Private Terrance Sweetwater, demolitions specialist Private George Haggard Jr., and squad leader Sergeant Samuel Redford. The squad, escaping with gold in the previous game but believed to be caught soon thereafter, now work for a special assignment for the Army in securing a dangerous weapon codenamed “Aurora.”

Plot
In October 1944, a group of commandos infiltrate an IJN-controlled island in the Sea of Japan. They secure a Japanese scientist who was working on a secret weapon codenamed Aurora and escape the island on a submarine. But as foreshadowed by the scientist’s warnings the commandos witness Aurora being fired and perish.

In the present day, Privates Preston Marlowe, Terrence Sweetwater, George Haggard, and Sergeant Samuel Redford fight behind enemy lines in Russia in attempt to secure a device related to Aurora. Despite escaping Russian soldiers and completing their believed final mission in their service, the device is discovered to be a fake. Being impressed with their previous activities, Army General Braidwood assigns them to a special operation of stopping Aurora, much to the disappointment of Redford.

The squad travels to Bolivia in search of an agent named Aguire. Through many firefights, they save Aguire. Aguire requests the squad to get all his intelligence detailing Aurora from a French satellite that can be controlled from a base in the Andes Mountains. Sweetwater crashes the satellite and Marlowe finds the intel device upon the crash site.

During extraction, Aguire briefs the squad about a man responsible for rebuilding Aurora named Arkady Kirelenko; a Russian Army colonel the squad failed to eliminate in Russia. Kirelenko is believed to be hiding in Chile. Marlowe and the squad aided by US forces find Kirelenko, though he soon escapes. Left only with papers from Kirelenko, Sweetwater discovers there is a shipping manifest for an abandoned ship called the “Sangre Del Toro.” Aided by the rest of the squad getting the coordinates, Marlowe finds the ship and retrieves an unnamed compound essential to the use of the weapon.

While attempting to meet Aguire in Colombia their helicopter is shot down and they become separated. Along with their helicopter pilot Flynn they regroup and escape the local militia. Marlowe gives Aguire the compound before finding out that Aguire double-crossed the squad by allying with Kirelenko. Aguire wants revenge against the United States for what happened to his father, one of the commandos in original raid on Aurora, after it is revealed that the US military callously sent them to their deaths. Despite the alliance Kirelenko betrays Aguire and kills him. Flynn intervenes and saves the squad at the cost of his own life.

In a city, Marlowe and the squad find a large cargo aircraft, an Antonov An-124 (Haggard mistakes it for the larger Antonov An-225 Mriya) that is believed to house Aurora. This is immediately confirmed as the weapon releases a powerful electromagnetic pulse, destroying all electronic equipment in the city and thereby causing all military vehicles to cease functioning; a helicopter nearly crashes onto the squad. Everyone except Marlowe becomes disheartened of continuing the mission. Marlowe encourages them to get on the aircraft. The squad infiltrates the aircraft’s lower levels as it takes off. After a firefight to reach the cockpit they find it empty. The squad returns to the cargo bay to find Kirelenko attempting to fire Aurora again, now high over the southern United States and thereby causing havoc on the power grid and crippling the country’s ability to defend itself against an attack. With the help of explosives from the plane’s armory they gain access to Aurora and Marlowe destroys it.

The firefight and the violent destruction of Aurora has crippled the aircraft, sending it plummeting. The squad bails out with Kirelenko trying to grab the last parachute in mid-air. In free fall Marlowe kills Kirelenko before getting the parachute from Sweetwater. The squad lands and regroups in Haggard’s home state of Texas behind the destroyed airplane. Shortly after, General Braidwood drives by to inform them that they are to aid the US Army in defense against the incoming Russian invasion that recently passed through Alaska and Canada.

The game has received generally positive reviews. Game Informer magazine gave the game a 9.5 out of 10, praising the improvements made over the first Bad Company.

GameZone’s Steven Hopper gave the game a 9.25/10, saying, “Even though the single-player campaign still isn’t where it needs to be, Bad Company 2 is definitely a great sequel that builds on its predecessor in every way, making for one that no shooter fan will want to miss, especially if you go online for your gaming.”

Gametrailer gave Battlefield: Bad Company 2 a 9.1 out of a possible 10, praising its use of an intertwining multiplayer, but labeling the single player as predictable.

GameSpy reviewer Anthony Gallegos gave the game 4.5 stars out of 5, describing the single-player campaign as “a blast” and concluding that “the staying power for BFBC2 lies in its multiplayer”.

Dan Whitehead from EuroGamer reviewed the game and gave it a score of 9/10, describing Bad Company 2 as an “open challenge” to Activision’s market leader Modern Warfare 2, and considering it to be the “superior game” when compared to it, with “immediately evident” improvements over the previous game in the series. Whitehead concluded that Bad Company 2 is “the online shooter at its most streamlined, most thoughtful, most exhilarating”.

For $15 you get the “Stimulus Package” that includes five new multiplayer areas called Bailout, Storm, Salvage, Overgrown and Crash.

Infinity Ward will celebrate the release of the Stimulus Package by holding a Double XP weekend from April 2 – 4th. with other platforms expecting to release the maps at a later date.

The Stimulus Package adds some new locations to the multi-player modes and some of my favorites from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. Three of the maps are new and Crash and Overgrown
are from the old game. The new maps, according to the description of the map-pack, include Bailout, “a multi-level apartment complex;” Storm, “an open industrial park littered with heavy machinery;” and Salvage, “a snowy junkyard fortified by stacked debris and crushed cars.”

Unfortunately, it seems the launch of the new maps was botched — we’ve received a number of tips claiming the maps aren’t loading in-game. Major Nelson recently Tweeted that the game needs a title update in order to incorporate the new content, which he says is coming soon. We’ll let you know when everything’s in working order.

Update: The Major just confirmed that the title update is live, and should be available worldwide in “a few minutes.”

Some of them from earlier releases of the game and some are new characters. You really get a sense of camaraderie with your men in this game as you fight side by side through some tough battles.

If you’ve seen the T.V. series Band of Brothers you understand that men who fight together find that an unbreakable bond grows between them as they help each other survive the most dangerous situations. Hell’s Highway has done a great job creating the sense that you are really fighting battles with your troops and without their help you would not survive. Sometimes they save you and other time you are the one coming to the rescue.

The better you know the men on your team, the more realistic the game seems to be so here’s a short profile on the main characters in Brothers In Arms Hell’s Highway.

* Staff Sergeant Matthew Baker: The player character and squad leader. Born in St. Louis, Missouri and 24 years old, and his helmet has the trademark goggles on it, Baker provides monologues throughout the game showing an insight into the development of his brotherly relationships with his men. Baker takes the death of his men and anybody close to him very hard, and vows to. He uses an M1 Garand Rifle and the Thompson submachine gun. Baker seems to be suffering from hallucinations and some form of PTSD. In several missions he sees “ghosts” of his former men who died under his leadership. He is nearing the breaking point, and several other people notice that, and begin to question his competence to lead.

*
o Matt’s “cursed” pistol is a highly polished nickel-plated Colt M1911 .45 caliber pistol given to him by his father (who also was armed with it during the First World War), who after he retired, had the pistol engraved with the words “For Matthew, Brothers in Arms”. Col. Joe Baker wanted his son Matt to carry the gun with him should another war arise, with his father expecting him to be a great soldier someday. Matt isn’t sure he can satisfy his father’s high expectations, and never wanted the .45 in the first place. Before D-Day, Matt gives his pistol to Sgt. George Risner, who told him he’d give it back to him after they linked up in Normandy. On D+1, near St. Come Du Mont, while Baker is escorting Risner to the town, Risner’s M5 Stuart light tank is hit by a Panzerfaust, and after Risner runs out of Thompson ammunition, he fires the pistol, and is hit repeatedly in the arms, chest, and neck. Later, the pistol is picked up by Pvt. Larry Allen and Pvt. Michael Garnett. While on patrol on a farm near St. Come Du Mont with Leggett, both are killed with the pistol, but Leggett is not, forcing the rest of the squad to become suspicious of Leggett and blame him for their deaths. On D+7, at Hill 30 during the defense of the counterattack on Carentan, Leggett stands on the top of a hedgerow with the pistol, begging for a Panzer to take his life, and is killed. Matt’s father also died with the pistol. Matt is the only one who seems to survive. Possibly it is because his name is engraved on it, Baker refuses to believe in the superstition, but ironically, refuses to let anyone other than himself touch it, hinting that Baker just may believe the rumors.

* Staff Sergeant Joe “Red” Hartsock: So named for his fiery red hair, “Red” has a wild past full of bar-fights, and overnight arrests. Born in Laramie, Wyoming and 24 years old. One bar fight saw Hartsock confronted by a drunken lumberjack armed with a broken beer bottle, the result was a nasty scar on his left cheek. Sometime afterward, he met and fell in love with his wife, Erma, who saw Joe as her “project”, after a few months, she’d managed to do the seemingly impossible, she had turned Joe into a God-fearing man, and had even given him a baby daughter, Carol, who he’d never met because he’d enlisted when Erma was 9 months pregnant. Hartsock wants to win the war so he can get back to his ranch and family in Wyoming, and see the daughter that he has been so anxious to meet, Carol will turn 3 years old in December. In the military, Hartsock began as a Corporal back in Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30. He was promoted at the end of the Hill 30 game to Sergeant, becoming the squad leader of 2nd squad himself. Matt Baker does not lead Red in Hell’s Highway, instead Red is a Staff Sergeant with a full squad of his own who will fight alongside Baker, being supported by and supporting Baker in certain missions of the game. Joe “Red” Hartstock is then paralyzed in the end of Hell’s Highway by a mortar round that hits a cafe that Baker and Friar were also in – it is the same mortar that kills Friar. The building collapsed and it did damage to his spinal cord so he is unable to walk. Red is sent home due to these injuries.

* Corporal Sam Corrion: Another familiar Brothers in Arms character, Corrion leads the squad’s assault team. Born in Augusta, Georgia and 26 years old, Cpl. Corrion was in charge of a textile mill before the war where he made a rather good living, but always wanted a grand adventure after being in the small Georgia town all his life. Corrion was a corporal with Baker and Hartsock before the jump into Normandy and is still a corporal going into the Netherlands, much to his dismay. He believes that he can perform better than Baker and Hartsock on the battlefield, if only given the chance. He uses a M1A1 Thompson submachine gun. After Red is paralyzed, Baker is asked to name Red’s replacement as the leader of 2nd squad. Corrion is hopeful of being named, but Baker chooses Paddock instead. Corrion is irate at this, and Baker explains that he believes that Frankie died because Corrion couldn’t hold him in line. He is shot in the mission “Hell’s Highway” that barely misses his heart but survives the bullet. In the final cutscene, he learns what happened with Leggett, Allen, and Garnett, and feels betrayed that Baker never told what really happened. This seems to be the final straw for Corrion, as he tells Baker, “We are never fighting together again.”

* Private First Class Gary “Jas” Jasper: He is a replacement soldier armed with an M9A1 Bazooka. He named his weapon Stella, after his girlfriend. Jasper is also a member of Baker’s machine gun team, so he also carries a .30-caliber Browning M1919. Jasper is a larger-than-life soldier with a great personality and sense of humor, he also is a great soldier and can manage to draw a chuckle even in the worst of conditions. Jasper is a very playful person and is well-known and liked by everyone. Pfc. Jasper is the only team leader who is not a corporal.

* Private First Class Timothy Connor: Jasper’s assistant on the machine gun and Bazooka. He is a rather quiet man, but shares Jasper’s humor and is always glad to do his job, and do it well, and always backs up Jasper should he be unable to find the right joke for the given situation. He carries two ammunition belts for the machine gun or a backpack containing bazooka shells whenever he uses the machine gun or Bazooka. He mainly uses an M1A1 Carbine. Connor also has a cigarette box attached behind the elastic band on his helmet. He is only heard in the level “Baptism of Fire” when Baker tells Connor to “suppress the Krauts.”

* Nathan Holden : The radioman in Baker’s platoon, a job that fits him perfectly, he is constantly concerned with the efficiency of the communications and tactics and he is quick to question the squad’s methods or orders, the rest of them don’t take him seriously in the fact being that his logic rarely applies when things go FUBAR. He uses an M1 Garand Rifle. Nathan was born in San Diego, California and is 23 years old.

* Private First Class Mike Dawson: A transfer who served in the 502d PIR Pathfinders in Normandy; a mysterious character, Dawson doesn’t wear a helmet saying it distracts his aim, and he speaks with an English accent. He finds interest in Baker’s and Hartsock’s stories, especially those about Baker’s “cursed” pistol. Because of this, he is isolated from the rest of the squad for they would rather not re-live those events, but the others still listen to him and respect him as an equal. He is a member of Baker’s assault team. He uses a M1A1 Carbine. Dawson starts off on a friendly note with Baker but gets on his bad side after attacking a British soldier who apparently found (and wore) Franky LaRoche’s jacket. After the level “Hell’s Highway,” Dawson tells Baker that he ran into Leggett while he was in Normandy, and that he was told about what really happened with Leggett, Allen, and Garnett. He coerces Baker into telling the rest of the squad the real story. In the final cut-scene he notices Baker talking to himself. Dawson simply ignores this. He is 24 years old and from Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, England.

* Corporal Franklin Paddock: Red’s Assault-Team Leader introduced in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. Paddock is a great soldier all around, though having a comical, and often irritating personality. Paddock has the reputation of being a redneck, and is proud of it. He uses an M3A1 Grease Gun. Paddock is a capable and courageous assault team leader (though his loud and boisterous chatter and taunting of the enemy may be distracting in combat) for Red’s squad despite being somewhat arrogant and reckless, and always has a rude, but funny comment toward anyone who tries to talk down to him. He often refers to Corrion as “Sammy-Boy.” Paddock is shown to have saved Baker’s life in Eindhoven by throwing a German out a church bell tower – the same German who killed Lt. Col. Cole. He is shown in the level Written In Stone to end up on Baker’s assault team as the only soldier separating himself from his original squad. He helps Baker hunt down the sniper and his platoon that killed Lt. Col. Cole. After Hartsock is wounded outside Veghel, Paddock is promoted and placed in lead of 2nd Squad. His attitude becomes more sullen after Friar and Marsh are killed, as he had said when the squad was in England that “Marsh and Friar are going to bite it.” Paddock says that he only did it to try to point out holes in the unit.

* Corporal Jacob Campbell: Red’s Fire-Team Leader introduced in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. Campbell is shown to be distraught about the death of Marsh on the ambush of the 2nd Squad, causing him to wonder how Paddock possibly knew it was going to happen. Jacob is a dedicated soldier who wants to prove himself in battle and isn’t one for small-talk. He uses a M1 Garand. Campbell was inside the cafe that was hit by a mortar which wounds Baker and Hartsock and kills Friar; he survives, but is wounded in the neck, preventing him from speaking for the rest of the game. It is unknown as of now if this is temporary or permanent.

* Private First Class James Marsh: A member of Red’s fire-team introduced in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. Marsh is a combat veteran of the African campaign and is a more than capable soldier, and has a great personality. A cutscene in the mission “Baptism by Fire” reveals that Marsh perished due to sniper fire. Supposedly, while in England Paddock predicted that Marsh and Friar would be killed in Holland. Marsh carries an M1 Garand rifle in Hell’s Highway.

* Private First Class Dean “Friar” Winchell: A member of Red’s Assault-Team introduced in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood, Friar was the man who bandaged Hartsock’s mangled ring finger after it was apparently shot off while entering the town of Baupte in Normandy. He uses an M1 Garand rifle. He is killed in the mission “Black Friday” by a mortar round that lands on a building his squad was occupying; the same mortar wounds Baker, Hartsock, and Campbell. His death was predicted by Paddock before Operation: Market Garden.

* Private Franky “Beans” LaRoche: LaRoche is a young soldier in Baker’s squad who lied about his age to join the army. Young, and filled with heroic ideals, he is eager to rush into action…and all too willing to put his life on the line. He is the replacement on the assault team and the youngest in 3rd Squad. During the celebration in Eindhoven, Frank meets a young Dutch girl and then reveals that he has never really had a girlfriend. This is proven to be true, because Frank risks the safety of himself and his squad just to rescue her during the mission “Baptism by Fire”. Franky is killed in “The Rabbit Hole” after being shot several times in the chest.

* Corporal Thomas “Zano” Zanovich: An old friend from Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Zanovich is now Baker’s fire team leader. The “old man” and another veteran of the squad, Zanovich served in the French Foreign Legion for many years, and fought at Dunkirk in 1940, with the British, before enlisting in the U.S Army, he is more than capable of doing his job, and is a great leader should the situation call for it. Despite all the combat he’s seen, Tom remains good-natured and has a strong sense of humor, even when the situation doesn’t exactly call for it. He is the type to draw a quick laugh in a smooth casual tone without going to great lengths to get it. Tom is a cynical soldier, and always is the first one to ask “why” about whatever the squad is doing, and often questions the knowledge of the officers who assigns the squad orders. Zano also dislikes the Jeep columns the paratroopers drive in. He uses an M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle and an M1 Garand.

* Private First Class Jack Courtland: Another familiar face from Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Courtland is a member of Baker’s assault team and is a member of the bazooka team and machine gun team. He uses a M1A1 Thompson submachine gun. A bit of a hot-head, Jack joined the paratroopers with dreams of glory and impressing French girls with his tales of valor. His eagerness to be a hero quickly faded after being lost for days in Normandy. Now, Courtland just wants to get back home and fighting for the man next to him is the best way to do it.

* Lieutenant Colonel Robert Cole: One of the game’s true to life characters, Robert Cole was the commander of the 3rd Battalion 502nd PIR of the 101st Airborne Division Lt. Col Cole was a larger-than-life man, and always led by example, and would never send a soldier to do something that he would not be willing to do himself. He led his men when they jumped into Normandy on D-Day, and during Market-Garden. On September 18(D+1), a pilot instructed Cole to place orange smoke flares in front of his unit’s position so that the air support would see where the friendlies were located, Cole performed the action himself, rather than send in one of his men to do the risky deed. A German sniper in a nearby farmhouse shot and killed Cole while he was making sure his soldiers were at a safe distance from the incoming air attacks. Only a couple weeks later, Lt. Col. Cole was nominated for the Congressional Medal of Honor for a bayonet charge he’d led outside of Carentan on June 11, 1944 during the Normandy invasion. He never saw the medal he was awarded, and he is buried in the Netherlands. He uses a M1A1 Thompson submachine gun.

* 1st Sgt. “Top” Greg “Mac” Hassay: He appears in a cameo role and indeed survives his wound received during the events in Brothers in Arms: Earned in Blood. In the first game he was Baker’s platoon sergeant and was a close friend of Baker’s father, Col. Joe Baker and his family for many years, and always has a close eye on Baker, Hassay is much like a father-figure to Baker, and the men. In Hell’s Highway, he is now a 1st Sgt of what is presumably Baker’s old company. He uses a M1A1 Thompson submachine gun.

* Private First Class Dale “Kid” McCreary: Another face from Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, McCreary is a member of Baker’s fire team. It is believed he is the character who Baker stops from hitting the ground during the demonstration video (he does not die in the actual game). He uses an M1 Garand Rifle.

* Tank Commander Henry Redwood: Redwood is the player character during the first tank mission in Eindhoven. He may be a part of the Irish Guards, due to his accent and the fact that is the forward unit of XXX Corps. He introduces himself to Baker by saying “My name’s Redwood, we’re here to help you get through this shithole”.

* Private First Class James “Jimmy” Roselli: Roselli is a replacement for Hartsock’s assault team, he is shown in most videos to be another one who rarely speaks and acts when time calls for it. James replaces Marsh who was switched to the fire team after Normandy. Jimmy was first seen in the second developer’s diary fighting with Paddock and Hartsock, holding Roselli back. He also has a cigarette box attached behind the elastic band on his helmet. He uses an M1918 Browning Automatic Rifle.

* Colonel Robert Sink: Commander of the division’s 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, also known as the Five-Oh-Sink, who appears as a cameo role. Voiced by Captain Dale Dye, who also portrayed Sink in the ten-part miniseries Band of Brothers.

* Bobby Doran: He is Lt. Col. Cole’s radio man. He is only seen once on “First Bad News” when he is on the radio calling for backup. Cole keeps shouting at him to call in air support until the moment Bob dies, having been killed by an artillery shell (most likely from a mortar) in just a matter of minutes before Cole meets his own fate.

* Doc Gideon: Gideon is the 502nd PIR medic seen in Hell’s Highway. He is seen several times. Next to Lt. Col. Cole’s body in “First Bad News”, receiving Corrion when he’s injured at the end of “Hell’s Highway” and informing Matt about Hartsock’s broken spine in “Farewell is Goodbye”

* Tank Commander Joe Dickinson: Dickinson is the tank commander on “Black Friday” who destroys the tank at the cut scene. He is part of the XXX Corps. You only play as him on “Black Friday”

I’m sure it will be a very popular game and I’ll be logging a lot of game time when it comes out. As soon as I find them, I´ll be adding tips in a future post.

This game is been set in a futuristic time line. I guess in something like a partial post apocalyptic sort of environment where the technology has been improved vastly. Think Terminator meets Ghost recon. Filled with mist, thrill and destruction, this game is going to keep all the players at the edge of their seats. The developers at Ubisoft are saying that the new game is going to give gamers some new graphic technology never before seen making the game much more realistic then anything ever released before. I can hardly wait!

The player will be playing a soldier’s role in this game. To be precise, it’s a very high tech soldier we are talking about. With State of the art guns with laser and stuff, all modified into killer machines fighting powerful enemies. With grand missions and cutting edge technology, there are more thrilling sequences filled in that Ubisoft is keeping a secret.

It’s excellent story and unmatched level of gaming quality will take gaming to a new level. There are many new features which were not there in the previous edition. Its single player and multiplayer modes are expected to introduce new graphic technology and features.

Ubisoft has hired a pair of Oscar-winning directors to create a Ghost Recon short film that will serve as a prequel to the upcoming Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier, scheduled for release later this year.

The film will be directed by François Alaux and Hervé de Crécy, the directors of the Logorama, winner of the 2010 Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Tim Sexton, one of the writers of Children of Men, and Greg Pruss, who worked with Alaux and de Crécy on Logorama, are on board as writers. While reminiscent of last year’s series of Assassin’s Creed shorts that appeared on YouTube as part of that game’s marketing campaign, the Ghost Recon project will be a single, 30-minute film and it won’t necessarily debut online.

“The idea is to come out and come out big,” said Executive Producer Xavier Poix. “From TV to the internet, all possibilities are open.”

“We don’t look at it just as a video game brand,” added Producer Adrian Lacey. “For us, it’s very much an entertainment brand. Video Games talk to a lot more people than they did a while back. It’s a much bigger audience so we’re trying to bring more people to it.”

While Little Minx, a division of Ridley Scott and Associates, is involved with both films, the 30-minute short will be “completely separate” from the Ghost Recon: Future Soldier trailer that debuted this morning on GameTrailers. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is scheduled for release during the 2010 holiday season.

There are three classes to choose from: infantry, rifleman, and scout. Each have different weapons and work best at short-, middle-, and long-ranges, respectively. Each respawn you can pick your class, and downed enemies leave behind their gear in case you want to switch up during battle. Any friendly flag can be a respawn point, so the more bases you control the more options you have. Players have infinite ammo but still need to reload — a process that can take a while, so you’ll need to choose your reload times carefully. The game is well balanced, and the maps provide strategic opportunities for each class. There are towers for the snipers, for instance, and bases often have a hidden entrance infantry can charge.

Players also have the ability to fly various World War 2 fighter aircraft and bombers, navigate capital ships, submarines and aircraft carriers, man coastal artillery defenses, drive tanks, APCs and jeeps, and take control of anti-aircraft guns and mounted machine guns.

The game can be played in single player mode against computer bots or in multi player mode against players on the Internet or in a Local Area Network. It´s way to fun as a multi player games though to even consider single player mode. It is also a popular platform for mod developers, with a large number of released modifications that alter the game play and theme.

Games are made into rounds and a team wins the round when the other team runs out of tickets. A team loses tickets when its members are killed or when the other team holds a majority of the capture points on a map. So the winning team must hunt down hiding enemy forces at the end of a round.

Spawn tickets also play a vital role in the success of both teams. Every time a player on a team dies and respawns, his team loses one ticket. Every team starts each round with between 150 and 300 tickets, depending on the team’s role (e.g., defense). Teams also gradually lose tickets depending on how many spawn points they control. As a general rule, the fewer spawn points controlled by a team, the more tickets they lose. For a team of 32 on a 64 player map, with 150 tickets, this means a little less than 5 re spawns or deaths on average for every player if they hold their starting spawn points.

The creators of Battlefield 1942 have released expansion packs entitled Battlefield 1942: The Road To Rome (which adds the Italian Front) and Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons Of WWII. Both add various new game play modes and design concepts.

The visuals are pretty much the same but the series offers more of the fighting game play that made this game one of the best fighting games ever.

God of War 3, or War of God 3 as it is known in Europe, has an impressive scale to the epic adventure of Kratos over-coming Titans, throwing you into the center of an amazing sequence of battles riddled with Greek mythology themes. The combat is very responsive and has all the massive combos that we´ve grown to love. The old Square-Square-Triangle combo that ends with Kratos slicing sown the Blades in a big overhand motion isn´t as easily abused as in earlier releases. Enemies are much more aggressive than before so you´ll have to use more of a balance between attach and defensive moves. The game controllers seem more responsive in the new God of War 3.

In earlier games the weapons that you picked up along the way didn´t seem to be as effective as the good old fashioned blades but this time around the new weapons are very effective. You can also now switch between weapons in mid-combo and the switch is so fast that you can string together big sequences with all four weapons in one combo move.

Some of the weapons though are not much different than the blades. They have some unique powers and a few different moves but are pretty much the same as the blades. The only truly unique weapon is The Cestus, a pair of big metal gloves that you´ve sen in the earlier games, and I can´t help wishing that some of the other weapons were a as unique as the Cestus.

Kratos´s main weapons are the Blades of Exile and the Blades of Athena and the new weapons on God of War 3 include Claws of Hades, the Nemesis Whip (made from the Omphalos Stone by Hephaestus), and the Nemean Cestus (a pair of fist gauntlets shaped like lion heads acquired from Hercules). This new weapon has the ability to smash through solid objects such as rocks and to plow through enemy shields, but has a slightly smaller range than the extending chains on the Blades of Exile. The Claws of Hades and Nemesis Whip are similar to the Blades of Exile, both being used in the same fashion as the Blades of Exile, but with their own combos and magic abilities.

The number of enemies onscreen at any one time has increased to 50 instead of 15 in earlier installments. Gorgon Eyes and Phoenix Feathers which are used to increase the length of the health and magic bar respectively and the Minotaur Horns have been added to increase the length of the items bar.

The challenge feature is still there and called “Callenge of Olympus” and includes seven challenges with a bonus
challenge called “Challenge of Exile” with seven more challenges. In addition to the challenge mode, a new mode
has been added called the “Combat Arena”. Here, players have the options to set up their own battles with several different enemies. Stig Asmussen has said that more challenges might be added as downloadable content to keep the series going.
